UK based Deudraa launches low cost glucometer in India

The Deudraa Ltd., a UK based healthcare data management company, has introduced 'microdot', a low cost glucometer in India. The microdot kit, positioned at a competitive price with the existing glucometers in the market, contains microdot lancing device with 10 lancettes, the calibrating solution, 10 glucose dehydrogenase strips based on English technology and the glucometer. The glucometer has a 500 memory to store the glucose level and insulin doses, advanced glucose dehydrogenase chemistry and has no interfering substances including maltose, oxygen, octagam, icodextrin, ascorbic acid, aspirin and billrubin, which will help the diabetics and researchers engaged in clinical trials. "The low cost product with easy-to-handle profile will be the highlight of the product and we are planning to expand the product range in India if the pilot product found to be successful," said Prof. Christopher R Lowe, Director, Institute of Biotechnology, and University of Cambridge, UK. The Microdot product, made by a German company has been conceived and developed by Prof Christopher. He added that the product, which has attained CE Mark approval, will be launched in US, Check Republic and Malaysia within a short time. The Deudraa Impex Limited, the freshly commenced Indian arm of the company, has set its phase one target on Tamil Nadu and has plans to spread operations all over India within two years. The phase two launch will be in Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Karnataka will be executed within a short period and the company will have a one month review after phase one and two launches, informed P G Swamy, Director, Deudraa Impex Limited in a press conference. He said that the company would launch the product all over India in six phases. The company has set a target to market 15,000 units in the first year in Tamil Nadu and to increase it to 19,000 by the second year. The first year target envisages covering 1.5 percent of urban market share, three percent of the semi urban market share and five percent of rural market share in Tamil Nadu, according to Subbu Ramaswamy, the director with charge of marketing. The company expects 1.13 million units in Tamil Nadu by segregating the market into 12 areas with one wholesaler for each area. The MRP of the product has been fixed as Rs 1,499 per kit.
