Dr Kumara Swamy, chief radiation oncologist at the Ruby Hall Clinic's Cancer Center, performed the first successful application of the IGRT (Image Guided Radiotherapy) technology in India. Master Ankush Shah, a 7-year-old boy residing at Kalyani Nagar was suffering from a brain tumour. The recently launched IGRT technology successfully treated the brain tumour. With its latest amenities Ruby Hall Cancer Center has become the first hospital in India to successfully execute the IGRT technology. Ruby Hall Clinic is the first hospital to install IGRT technology in Asia and fifth in the world. IGRT eradicates all the traditional drawbacks of cancer treatment and provides accurate and targeted treatment to cancer patients. IGRT is a new scientifically advanced radiotherapy for cancer patients. Earlier treatment by radiotherapy would locate the approximate location of the tumour and involve giving radiation to the surrounding healthy cells. IGRT uses the latest technology, which helps identify and map the exact shape and position of the tumour and helps doctors in administrating the therapy with precision and perfection. Speaking on the occasion Dr Kumara Swamy, said "Ruby Hall Clinic is always updated with latest medical technologies and aims to retain the trend in future. The IGRT goes beyond the traditional method, which eradicates all cells in the area. Its 3-D imaging focuses on just those cells affected by cancer, rather than all the cells in the area, and thus protecting the healthy cells." Sathiyanarayan, chief medical physicist, Ruby Hall Clinic, said, "Our team at Ruby Hall Clinic's cancer center works as a cohesive network and look towards delivering a comprehensive solution." He further added, "it gives all of us at Ruby Hall Clinic immense satisfaction to successfully handle the first case of IGRT in India.
