The radio advertisement campaign of Medicine Shoppe, which prompted the Pharmaceutical Wholesalers Association (PWA) to stop drug supplies to its company stores in Mumbai, does not contain anything objectionable to any of the chemists, says Medicine Shoppe. Reacting to the Pharmabiz news report on 'PWA to boycott Medicine Shoppe outlets for maligning other retail chemists,' Viraj Gandhi, managing director of Medicine Shoppe said there was nothing objectionable to any of the chemists and have not mentioned anywhere in the advertisement that only Medicine Shoppe sells genuine drugs. He noted that text of the advertisement is - 'The Medicine Shoppe - The safest pharmacy- Do you know 1 out of 4 medicines sold in India is fake? Take no chance - Be 100 per cent sure of what you buy. For more information call The Medicine Shoppe, India's only global pharmacy'. "We have simply informed the consumer about the menace of spurious drugs in our society and have advised them to be careful when they buy medicines. Any reference to Medicine Shoppe has only given to get further information so that we can supply the customers with our source of information" elaborated Gandhi in an e-mail communication. As reported, the PWA alleges that the advertisement on the prevalence of spurious drug in India is objectionable as it maligns the integrity of the Indian drug industry and trade and the efficiency of the drugs control department. Therefore, as a protest, the trade association has decided to stop supply of drugs to Medicine Shoppe stores in Mumbai.
