Ranbaxy appoints Atul Sobti as COO

Global Pharmaceutical major, Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd (Ranbaxy) has announced the elevation of Atul Sobti to the position of chief operating officer (COO), Ranbaxy, from January 1, 2007. Atul Sobti will be responsible for global business operations, manufacturing and generic development. He will continue to report to Malvinder Mohan Singh, CEO and MD, Ranbaxy. The position of the COO reinforces the company's aggressive game plan to accelerate growth and take advantage of the changing business dynamic that emphasizes equally, aspects of product portfolio, quality, global footprint and cost efficiency. Announcing Atul's elevation as COO, Malvinder Mohan Singh, said, "With continued aggressive growth plans in 2007 and beyond, we need to ensure an integrated, cohesive and cost effective organization globally, with greater interaction and seamless interface amongst all facets of the value adding process from the lab to market. The COO's position will effectively bring about these improved efficiencies by integrating leadership and accountability for the global P&L. As COO, Atul will be focusing on these aspects and I wish him all success in his new role." An alumnus of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, Atul Sobti completed his graduation from St Stephens College, University of Delhi. He is currently the president, Asia, Global Consumer Healthcare and API global business unit. He has a meritorious track record, with the experience of managing large business operations, with similar responsibilities. In Ranbaxy, he has commendably spearheaded business growth, and effectively led the support functions. During the year Ranbaxy made significant progress in consolidating its business and maintaining its growth momentum. Considerable inorganic investments were made to strengthen the company's presence across the globe.
