Waters India to focus on mass spectrometry instruments market in 2002

Waters India Pvt Ltd., a subsidiary of US based Waters Corporation will focus on increasing the sales of its range of new mass spectrometry instruments for drug development, bio-analytical quantitative and Proteomics labs in India during 2002. In the wake of the growing demand for laboratory instruments in the areas of biotechnology, pharma R&D and Proteomics, the company hopes to dominate in these areas during the year. Dr. Ranjit S Gulge, general manager marketing, Waters India told pharmabiz.com that the company foresees about 15 percent global growth in the analytical instrumentation market in 2002. In 2001, the market was growing between 10 to 15 percent. Some of the Waters India products which have excelled in India are Alliance, Breeze, LC-MS, LC-MS MS in the chromatographic area, special instruments for metabolite identification, quantification, structure elucidation aspects of pharma industry and High Throughput. The sophisticated instruments- Quattro micro, QT of micro, Q Tof Ultima, QT of Global and the QT of MALDI are a fusion of compact, intelligent mass analyzers and client-server Mass-Informatics. According to Dr. Gulge, the Indian analytical instruments market is just one percent of the global market. Waters India has been registering a 30 percent growth annually. The pharmaceutical and the life sciences sector provide 60 percent to the company's business. Meanwhile Waters Corporation continues to target high-growth segments of the worldwide pharmaceutical, life science, food and beverage, and chemical industries. Pharmaceutical research and development spending has fuelled the company's growth with an estimated 70 percent of pharmaceutical assays being HPLC or LC/MS based.
