Aurobindo gets South African marketing nod for Citalopram tab

Aurobindo Pharma Ltd has received marketing authorization approval from Medicines Control Council (MCC) of South Africa. The council has approved Citalopram tablets in 20mg strength. South African market is highly regulated and very important in its geographical sphere. The company having got this approval can now participate in CNS segment of South African market, which is a fast growing sector. Citalopram is popularly known as Celexa and marketed by Forest Laboratories. Citalopram belongs to a class of drugs known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. It is mostly used in symptoms of depression but is also prescribed in some forms of anxiety like social anxiety and premenstrual dysphoric disorder. The company is successfully marketing Citalopram in US and Canada. Citalopram commands a market of 56mio USD in South Africa.
