Aurobindo Pharma Ltd announced that the company has received US FDA approval for cephalosporins. This is the sixth cephalosporin approval for the company. With this the company has representation in each of the first three generations of cephalosporin antibiotics. Cefpodoxime is the generic version of Pharmacia Upjohn's Vantin. Cefpodoxime proxetil for oral suspension in the strengths of 50mg/5ml and 100mg/5ml has been approved. Cefpodoxime is mostly used to treat acute otitis media, community acquired Pneumoniae, uncomplicated urinary tract infections and also skin infections. The company is the proven leader in this segment/product range in several markets in the world. This would be an interesting niche opportunity for the company as there are limited numbers of players in the segment.
