OPPI invites nominations for research award

The Organisation of Pharmaceutical Producers of India (OPPI) has invited nominations from scientists and pharmaceutical institutions for OPPI Scientist Award for the year 2007. The award is to recognise and reward scientific contributions of significance in the field of human healthcare. The award will be for the best entry in the areas pharmaceutical chemistry, New Chemical Entity (NCE) as potential therapeutic agents, Improved Chemical Entity (ICE) like application of Chiral Chemistry etc., development of novel non-infringing patentable processes for API's, analytical research, pharmaceutics (novel and improved drug delivery system), pharmacology, pharmaceutical biotechnology / nanotechnology, pharmacognosy and phytochemistry. For the consideration of the award, the nominee should be a scientist of Indian nationality, be at least a science/pharmacy/post-graduate from a reputed university and should be less than 45 years of age at the time of applying. The nomination should carry a certificate from the head of the institution or the laboratory where the person is working, stating that the work submitted is original and does not violate any Intellectual Property Rights. The work submitted should have commercial application and the patented work will be given additional weightage, according to the announcement of OPPI. The organization also added that in the case of institutions might submit nominations for any number of Research Scientists. The nomination should have a signed note giving details such as name, age, company /institute / laboratory where the work has been carried out and the research paper with supporting documents (papers published, patents, any award received etc.) along with a passport size photograph of nominee. The recommendation of a winner will be by an independent board of juries who are experts in the field and whose decision will be final. The award, consisting a memento, citation and a cash prize of Rs One Lakh, for the year is sponsored by Analytical & Pharmaceutical Development Centre, Johnson & Johnson, India. The last date of receiving the completed applications is Monday, August 6, 2007.
