The Gujarat based major pharma company; Torrent Pharma has launched Fibotab (calcium polycarbophil). Fibotab is the first bulk laxative in a tablet form and offers multiple benefits over conventional Isabgol options available in the market.
Torrent pharma indicates that its Fibotab scores over conventional Isabgol in terms of compliance as it is available in tablet form and offers benefits like no mixing in water. Fibotab presents significantly less incidence of flatulence than natural fiber, as it doesn't ferment in the colon unlike Isabgol.
Fibotab is a hydrophilic synthetic resin with much better water holding capacity when compared with other bulk laxatives. Because of this, it can help control certain types of diarrhoea as well as treat constipation, thus being a useful therapy for Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).
