A seminar organised by Bio-Rad Laboratories in association with the Quality Council of India (QCI) on quality control in diagnostic laboratories has called for upgrading and enforcing of quality control practices for labs across the country. The seminar held here on Tuesday was fifth in the series by both the organisers this year and it highlighted the need of quality control besides depicting the differences of standards followed by India and other developed countries. "Only one in 1000 labs is accredited and this situation poses a risk to the public at large. Diagnosis is a crucial step in determining healthcare planning including medication prescription and quality control is imperative," observed Dr T Venkatesh, Advisor to Quality Council of India. "We have been organising large number of seminars to create awareness among the professionals and customers alike. This year itself, we have organised 168 programmes with this purpose," Bio-Rad Lab's country manager Dhiren Wangle told Pharmabiz. A number of international experts were among those addressed the workshop, attended by the representatives of diagnostic labs from different parts of North India. The speakers observed that there is a growing trend among the customers now to go for accredited labs with latest facilities to get the test results perfect. Besides, the treatment lines also get better because of better diagnostic results.
