A one-day workshop on "Patents: Prosecution & Licensing Strategies" will be held at Vista, World Trade Centre here on August 10, 2001.
The workshop has been organized by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in association with the Centre for Intellectual Property Management (CIPROM) which has been formed by eminent personalities in the fields of Law Research and Intellectual Property for dissemination of useful information, and imparting knowledge in Intellectual Property, and related areas including Law and Management.
From the licensing perspective, patent prosecution involves a series of carefully planned strategies, beginning with the "draft" and description of the "'invention" disclosing whatever needs to be disclosed and finally culminating in claiming the patent licence.
During the entire process, there are several issues, which need serious attention: resolving support issues, ways of probable construction of the claim language, equivalents and estoppels, just to name a few.
Even in the post-lodgment stage when claims are taken up to be constructed into licences it requires serious strategizing and careful monitoring of procedures. This workshop aims to address, some of these issues.
Those addressing the workshop include Donald Bollella, US Patent Attorney and Chief Patent Counsel, BTI Irvine, California; Dr N L Mitra, Vice Chancellor NLU Jodhpur; Manoj Pillai, Lex Orbis, Patent Attorney; and Dr Prabuddha Ganguli, CEO of Vision IPR.
CIPROM's activities include undertaking research, basic and applied, primary and secondary in IPR related areas including interplay of IPR with Economics, Law, Science and Technology.
CIPROM will be organizing a series of workshops with International and Indian resource persons in the field of IPR.
The key resource personnel associated with CIPROM are: Prof. (Dr.) N.L. Mitra - Chairman (Vice Chancellor - National Law University, Rajasthan and Ex-Director, National Law School, Bangalore); Dr. Prabuddha Ganguli - Vice Chairman, Ex-Hindustan Lever - IPR Specialist and Presently CEO, Vision IPR (consulting firm); Jayanti Ghose - Career Counsellor; Dr. Gopakumar G.
