The SAARC diabetes meeting was held at the Le Meridien Hotel in New Delhi recently, with about 800 doctors were participated. The chief guest was the Sri Lankan High Commissioner to India, C.R. Jayasinghe.
The Sri Lankan representatives on the international faculty were Dr. Mahen Wijesuriya, the director of the South Asian Division of the International Diabetes Federation and President of the Diabetic Association of Sri Lanka who spoke on 'The causes of the epidemic of diabetes and obesity' referred to as "diabesity" and Dr. Henry Rajaratnam, pioneer endocrinologist and physician and Patron of the Endocrine Society of Sri Lanka who spoke on 'blood sugar control and cardiovascular risk'.
