NPPA sends another demand notice of Rs 62.85 cr to Cipla

National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has send another notice for Rs 62.85 crore to Cipla Ltd towards interest for the period April 2007 to January 2008 on alleged overcharged amounts in respect of the drugs Ciprofloxacin, Norfloxacin, Salbutamol and Theophylline. The NPPA has also made a fresh demand of Rs 4.12 crore as alleged overcharged amounts inclusive of interest in respect of the drug Doxycycline and additional packs of the drug Norfloxacin. According to Cipla, the demand is contrary to the orders of the Supreme Court of India and the company has received legal advice that entire amounts demanded by the Government are not tenable and sustainable.
