NPPA revises price of 38 bulk drugs

The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has revised price of 38 bulk drugs including ibuprufen and its combinations, rifampicin, human insulin with effect from the first week of April 2008. The price of ibuprofen has increased to Rs 442 per kilogram (kg) from Rs 440 per kg fixed in March 2007 even as the price of cefadroxyl monohydrate hiked to Rs 2758 per kg from Rs 2466 per kg. The price of ibuprofen sodium has been fixed as Rs 819 kg, ibuprofen lysinate as Rs 1741 per kg and S(+) ibuprofen (dexibuprofen) Rs 1471 per kg, according to the notification issued on March 20, 2008. The authority has also revised price for nalidixic acid, iodochlorohydroxyquinoline (ICHQ), chloroquine phosphate, vitamin E acetate (dl a tocopheryl acetate), carbamezapine, salbutamole sulphate, rifampicin, human insulin, dextropropoxyphene hcl, dextropropoxyphene napsylate, cefotaxime sodium (sterile), erythromycin estolate, erythromycin base, erythromycin stearate, erythromycin ethyl succinate, erythromycin propionate, parachlorometaxylenol (PCMX), ranitidine Hcl, ephedrine Hcl, pseudo ephedrine Hcl, cephazoline sodium (sterile), cloxacilline (oral), cloxacilline (sterile), pentazocine, vitamin A palmitate, vitamin A acetate, dry vitamin A acetate, chloropropamide, naproxen, naproxen sodium, betamethasone mic alcohol, betamethasone 17 volerate and betamethasone di sodium phosphate. "These revised prices shall be made effective within 15 days from the date of this order as required under sub paragraph (1) of paragraph 14 of Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 1995," informed NPPA through the notification.
