Indo American Medical-Dental Conference to begin at Bangalore tomorrow

Karnataka doctors and dentists settled in the US will organise the third Indo-American Medical and Dental Conference at the JN Tata Auditorium in Bangalore from June 28, July 1, 2002. The conference, which coincides with the silver jubilee anniversary of the Karnataka State Medical and Dental Association (KSMDA), is being organised in association with the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences. The main objective of the 4-day meet is to educate the interns, medical students and junior doctors on the latest technologies and practises in the US. "This is being done to facilitate a greater exchange of information," informed Dr. V Sethu Madhavan, convention chairman. Karnataka chief minister S M Krishna will inaugurate the meet. There will be scientific sessions, workshops and symposia to be chaired by the leading doctors. The conference should have been held in December 2001, but was postponed due to the September 11 crisis in the US, said Dr. KM Srinivasa Gowda, registrar, RGUHS. KSMDA members have been regularly donating funds and equipment to RGUHS for various activities in the State, notably the free medical and dental clinic at Gattahalli, Kolar in Karnataka to serve 60 patients a week, nine gold medals to meritorious students and US$ 30,000 worth of equipment to the RGUHS to set up a sports medicine centre in Bangalore. The Alumni Association is also developing a digital library connecting 19 medical colleges across the state at a cost of Rs. 10 crore.
