Lifesciences equipment and clinical diagnostics major Bio-Rad Laboratories India Pvt Ltd., a subsidiary of Bio-Rad Laboratories USA, is now focusing on the genomics and proteomic drug discovery space to offer faster and friendly new tools for scientists. The company's 1000-series Thermal Cyclers is the next generation PCR (Polymerase Chain reaction) instrumentation. It is recognised as a best-in-class thermal performance because of the adherence to the most stringent quality standards. The C1000 and S1000 thermal cyclers will now provide the scientists and researchers the flexibility to operate with varied options for programming and the ability to support a wide range of consumables. A visible trend in India is the demand from the industry and research institutes for compliant technology to suit the IQ, OQ and PQ services which are mandatory design validation for on-site quality control operations. The parameters guarantee the user cent percent working condition assurance. The PCR was designed keeping in view the sensitive operations like drug discovery and clinical trials, Dhiren Wagle, head, Bio-Rad Laboratories India told Pharmabiz. The 1000-series offers scientists a technology platform to achieve faster results. The product offers high performance in a flexible and fully modular platform. It is available as a stand alone C1000 cycler with a basic S1000 cycler or a combination of both. The key asset is that it can accommodate different throughput needs with easily interchangeable reaction modules that swap in quickly. In addition, the four reaction modules have a gradient-enabled 96- fast module, a gradient enabled dual 48 well fast modules which allows two independent protocols to run on a single bay. It is adjustable with a wide range of vessels and sealers. The overall run time for a PCR reaction depends on the protocol design, enzyme type and premium thermal performance for reproducible results. Keeping in view the visible trends for patented technologies that can offer accuracy in readings during lab studies or clinical validation, the company has a range of instruments, apparatus and consumables for research in functional genomics and proteomics. In order to increase its service offering in the country, Bio_Rad has also gone on to strengthen its Indian base at Gurgaon in Haryana along with its branch offices located at Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkotta, Bangalore and Hyderabad to offer spares inventory and technical support applications. The service can be accessed via a toll free number. From India the company accesses SAARC countries and Mauritius. According to Wagle, Union government should make efforts to bring down customs duty of lifesciences products from the current rate ranging from 9 to 39 per cent. Only a sharp cut in the duty can make lifesciences equipments and clinical diagnostics affordable in the country.
