APDCA issues 5426 show cause notice for violation of D&C Rules in 2007

The Andhra Pradesh Drugs Control Administration (APDCA) has issued 5426 show cause notices for violation of Drugs & Cosmetics Act during the period of January to December 2007. During January to May 2008, it has issued 2610 show cause notices on the same ground, which includes manufacturing units as well as pharmacy outlets. According to the department, it has conducted 29831 inspections in the year ending December 2007. Its target for the year was 28080 inspections. In the period of January to May 2008, it has conducted a total of 12836 inspections against the department's target of 13000 inspections. As per the department, there are around 45,000 pharmacy outlets and 1600 manufacturing units located in the state. In 2007, the department had lifted 4754 samples, while during the period since January to May 2008 it has lifted 2456 samples. During 2007, the department has filed 81 cases and from January to May 2008 it has filed 18 cases. During the year 2007 various courts have decided about 94 cases and out it 38 were convicted. Whereas, from January to May this year 20 were decided and convicted 11. There are 255 cases under investigation in the year of 2007, while those during January to May there are 266. It has received 4683 samples in 2007 and 2052 samples until May 2008. During the period of January to December 2007 it has analysed 4772 samples, while those during the period of January to May 2008 is 2187. In the analysis of the samples the department has found 84 samples not of standard quality in 2007. Out of these, 20 samples are manufactured in Andhra Pradesh and 64 are manufactured outside the state. During the period from January to May 2008 it has found a total of 42 samples not of the standard quality, out of it 14 are manufactured within the state and 28 outside the state.
