Dr Batra, founder of Dr Batra's Positive Health Clinic, the well-known chain of Homeopathy clinics, has invited nominations from individuals, who have overcome physical disease and disability, for the Annual Positive Health Awards. In its third year Dr Batra's Annual Positive Health Award is a unique attempt to recognize the triumph of the human spirit in overcoming physical disease and disability. The award recognizes medical miracles -- individuals who have demonstrated enormous fighting spirit to beat the odds to recover from seemingly hopeless medical conditions. These are the only awards in the country of its kind. Calling for nominations this year for selection by an expert panel, Dr Mukesh Batra, CMD, Dr Batra's Positive Health Clinics said, "The will to live is probably the greatest determinant between those who survive and those who succumb to a similar life-threatening condition. As a medical professional, I have always been fascinated by this instinct for survival, how disease will strengthen it in some and sap it in others. In my many years of practice, I have seen remarkable recoveries -- patients who have beaten the odds and overcome seemingly hopeless conditions. The Positive Health Awards are a way of honouring this spirit and re-affirming our commitment to alround health and positivism." Some earlier winners include Majibhai Ramani, who lost both his arms while working on a sugarcane machine in early childhood but went on to pursue his love of painting by learning to wield the brush with his mouth. Today, he is the only artist in India who can paint and laboriously adorn pictures with precious stones using only his mouth. Batra's seek similar outstanding examples of personal fortitude. The Positive Health Awards 2008 will be presented at a grand ceremony on October 15, 2008.
