Metropolis gets SANAS accreditation

Our Bureau, MumbaiFriday, October 17, 2008, 08:00 Hrs  [IST]

Metropolis Health Services, India's only multinational chain of diagnostics centre has become the first and only Indian diagnostic laboratory to be SANAS (South African National Accreditation System) accredited, resulting in Metropolis having the largest number of key, globally-recognised accreditations in the country. The SANAS is recognized by the South African Government as the single national accreditation body, that gives formal recognition to Laboratories, Certification Bodies, Inspection Bodies, Proficiency Testing Scheme Providers and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) test facilities, certifying its competencies to carry out qualified tests/tasks. On the occasion Dr G S K Velu, managing director, Metropolis Health Services said, "We consider it as a great privilege to have been bestowed the SANAS accreditation. It's also a matter of great pride that with this, Metropolis has the highest number of primary global accreditations in the country. This follows our recent global accreditations from CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments), CAP (College Of American Pathologists) and domestic accreditation from NABL (National Accreditation Board for testing and Calibration Laboratories), and reflects our endeavor to constantly offer quality and premium services to our customers. These accreditations have raised the bar of expectations internally while also ensuring and reaffirming Metropolis' quality assurance system and technical competence." He further added, "Consumers need to be aware of the accreditations of the lab they refer to. This is important, since in India only less than 1% of the Clinical Laboratories have some sort of accreditations. Unfortunately, almost any one can set up a laboratory due to the lack of proper policies in place, and which can have, needless to say, far-reaching negative effects."
