FDA confiscates duplicate "Kamagra' brand in Mumbai & Delhi

The Maharashtra Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) busted a racket of fake drug manufacturers who were running a production and packaging unit of Kamagra in Mumbai. 'Kamagra' brand, owned by Ajanta Pharma Ltd, Mumbai, is indicated for the treatment of Erectile Dysfunction. Mohammad Anwar Mohammad Yusuf alias Jeeva, 65, and Monty Singh, 50, have been arrested and remanded to police custody till November 17. Kamagra Oral jelly worth Rs 10 lakh has been confiscated in the raid. Police & Drug inspectors found huge amounts of raw material and mixes needed for the manufacture of duplicate Kamagra jelly in Vakola, Santa Cruz. The adulterators were manufacturing the jelly in bulk here and were taking it to Motilal Nagar in Goregaon (West) where it was being packed in polythene foils. At the Goregaon unit, FDA and police officials seized two packing machines. Earlier, in a raid conducted at a courier office in Andheri (East), the state FDA had confiscated fake Kamagra worth lakhs of rupees. These drugs, which included tablets as well as oral jelly, were kept in boxes and were to be exported illegally to foreign countries. Two people involved Ravi Gupta and Irfan were remanded to judicial custody. Similarly in Delhi, FDA officials confiscated duplicate Kamagra from Sabharwal Medical in Bhagirath Place and seized material worth lakhs of rupees. More such raids are being planned by FDA to eradicate the fake drug racket from the country.
