NIPER scientist chosen as Microbiologists Association fellow

Dr Prati Pal Singh, professor at the department of pharmacology and toxicology at NIPER, Mohali, has been elected a Fellow of Association of Microbiologists of India (FAMI) for his outstanding research contributions in the area of pathogenesis, biotechnology, chemotherapy and immunology of parasitic and microbial diseases (tuberculosis, malaria, leishmaniasis and amoebiasis). Dr. Singh, postgraduate scholar from University of Lucknow, completed his Ph.D. from Central Drug Research Institute (CDRI) Lucknow. Later he did his post-doctoral research at Stanford University Medical Center, USA. After joining NIPER as an Associate Professor in 1997, he initiated strong research programs in the field of microbial diseases, said a release here. Dr. Singh has published more than 72 research papers in peer reviewed high impact international research journals. He has six international patents including one US. Presently he is editor-in-chief of Journal of Parasitic Diseases. Recently he has been awarded a prestigious Indo-European Union (Indo-EU) FP7 research project on new drugs for TB. The other honours includes Fellow of National Academy of Sciences, the Bill and Melinda Gates Global health Travel Award and the Tulsabai Somani Educational Trust 1992 award of the Indian Academy of Neurosciences.
