The Pharmaceutical Export Promotion Council (Pharmexcil) in association with NIPER will establish an Export Management Centre at NIPER, Mohali which will create world class resource personnel in the pharmaceutical export arena. The centre, funded by the department of pharmaceuticals, will offer most advanced course on export, both for the existing exporters and the new personnel. The Pharmexcil will rope in reputed institutions like Indian School of Business, Hyderabad, NALSAR Hyderabad and Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT), Delhi for providing quality information to the participants. Besides, regulatory authorities and trade association representatives from different countries, including regulated and semi-regulated countries, will also be roped in to shed light on the existing rules and regulations in their respective countries. Pharmexcil executive director Dr P V Appaji said that the project is at a planning stage and the nitty gritties are being prepared by the Pharmexcil in association with NIPER. As per the plan, course content and syllabus will be prepared by Pharmexcil and the NIPER will provide the required infrastructure for the project. The pharma department will provide the entire funds which will come to around Rs 2 crore per year. The export management centre will offer certificate as well as diploma courses. The duration of the course will range from three months to a year depending on the course. The centre will offer both part time course for the existing exporters and full time course for others, Dr Appaji said. He said that the initiative will prove to be a boon to the industry, especially the small and medium enterprise, as the course will provide all the required information regarding the export rules and regulations prevalent in both the regulated and semi-regulated pharma markets in the world. Since the knowledge-based pharma industry is entirely different from other industries as there are a separate set of regulations and patents covering the pharma industry, there is a greater chance of getting cheated due to the ignorance about the laws existing in different countries. So, it is necessary to create world class resource personnel in the pharmaceutical export arena in the country, he said.
