Japanese aid for enhanced medicare

The Japanese Consulate has extended financial support worth US$ 600,000 to 12 NGOs for extending enhanced medical care. The support is double the amount that was granted last year, according to Consul General of Japan, Masayuki Makiya. While four NGOs, viz Sri Vigneshwara Mahila Mandali (SVMM), Community for Food and Rural Development (CAFARD), both of Andhra Pradesh, Centre for Social Reconstruction (CSR) and The Voluntary Health, Education and Rural Development Society (VHERDS), both of Tamil Nadu, have been disbursed the grant totaling Rs.64.74 lakhs, twelve NGOs will shortly be disbursed the grant, Makiya told Pharmabiz.com. It is stated that SVMM would utilize the grant to extend mobile medicare to the aged in 20 different villages in Andhra Pradesh and to purchase ambulances to provide emergency relief to the rural aged. VHERDS would be using the financial assistance to establish two medical centers one each in Damal and Dandalam villages in Tamil Nadu. CSR would use the grant to set up training centers with facilities for boarding and lodging that would be fully equipped to facilitate meaningful and appropriate training for the prevention of HIV/AIDS The Japanese Consulate has been extending financial support for enhanced medicare since its establishment in 1997. So far, it has disbursed grant totaling US$ 12,00,000 so far, disbursing the amount to 17 NGOs belonging to the states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
