Medica Synergie's 4 hospitals in eastern India to be operational by June

The Kolkata-based Medica Synergie, a knowledge resource company in healthcare sector, is planning to commission four hospitals including a super speciality hospital in the eastern region of India within three months. The super speciality hospital in an area around 220000 sq ft will have 500 bed capacity and speciality services for cardiac, joint replacement, gastro intestinal, neurologic and diabetes treatment. The hospital is coming up with an investment of Rs 140 crore and the facility will be ready in next three months, informed Dr Alok Roy, chairman and managing director, Medica Synergie Pvt Ltd. Apart from the super speciality hospital at Kolkata, two 200 bed hospitals at Siliguri and Asansol along with an Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT) hospital at Kolkata will be ready for operation within the time, he added. The company, with an investment of around Rs 270 crore earmarked almost a year back, is also planning to launch more pharmacy chains in a time span of next one year. "We are setting up a hub-and-spoke network of hospitals across eastern India. Medica Synergie is dedicated in developing an integrated healthcare model wherein various complementary domains converge to ensure that Quality healthcare and related services reach the masses at an affordable cost," said Dr Roy. He added that the organisation has not been affected by the global meltdown and the funds are readily available for the projects. The Medica Pharmacy, the pharma retail chain under the organisation, is expected to open a total of 250 retail shops in the state within a year as the first phase of its retail venture. Currently, the retail arm runs around 58 outlets in the state and is counted as the largest retail pharmacy chain in the eastern India. The company is in a process to set up 500 outlets in the region within a short period. Medica Synergie, with a team of over 600 individuals with experience in healthcare sector, also has its business operations in project and consultancy services to private healthcare organisations and state governments. The company is currently working with 13 state governments to provide project and consultancy services in areas including health policy, research and evaluation, community mobilisation, behaviour change communications, health financing, biomedical waste management and training and capacity building. The project and consultancy services focus on three major practices - hospital planning and management, public health, quality and accreditation. The company have specialist teams in the areas of hospital planning, architecture and systems development for NABH like accreditations to provide these services, averred Dr Roy. He added that the healthcare sector in the East is under developed and provides lot of opportunity to serve over 26 per cent of the country's population that resides in the 12 states in the region. West Bengal alone requires over five times the number of beds than what is available to meet WHO norms and the mission of Medica Synergie is to improve the healthcare conditions in the region with joint efforts.
