Sun Pharmaceutical, a Mumbai-based Rs 3350 crore pharmaceutical giant and India's fastest growing international speciality pharma company, has received award in Outstanding Pharmaceuticals, Healthcare & Life Sciences category at the 3rd DHL and CNBC-TV18 International Trade Awards 2008-2009. These awards recognise the efforts of organisations and individuals who have driven India's growth engine in global trade and taken 'Brand India' to the world. Rakesh Mehta, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd, senior vice president, International Marketing received the award. This year's awards are indeed special. As A B Ravi, editor - special projects, CNBC-TV18, said, "The International Trade Awards are slowly becoming a new benchmark of excellence among the exporting community. As a responsible news channel, CNBC-TV18 has been espousing the cause of the Indian exporters as well as showcasing their successes. The International Trade Awards is our way of saluting the never-say-die spirit of the Indian exporters." Managing Growth in a Volatile Economy was the theme of this year's Awards. That's because Indian exporters have shown remarkable resilience to the global recessionary trend. India's export sector in rupee term has logged a growth rate of 20.3 per cent in the first 11 months of 2008-09. At a time when most Western countries have been experiencing degrowth, this growth has been possible thanks to the depreciation of the Indian rupee vis a vis dollar. These members of the Indian Exporters' Community indeed deserve a pat on their backs. For setting new standards in an increasingly competitive industry, for consistently delivering value to their customers and for taking Brand India to the world. As Malcolm Monteiro, senior vice-president & area director - South Asia, DHL Express, points out, "Importers and exporters, both big and small, form the foundation of a strong economy. We believe that they are the brand ambassadors in taking the 'Made in India' label to the world. In India, DHL along with Blue Dart form an indomitable combination in both the international & domestic express industry. As trade facilitators, we are proud to have created the International Trade Awards along with CNBC-TV18 to recognise this role and felicitate those who have performed well and set new benchmarks."
