NIPER celebrates 'national technology day'

National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) - an institution of national importance- celebrated the National Technology Day on May 11 to commemorate the invaluable contribution of science and technology to both development & security of India. The main objectives of the National Technology Day are to focus the attention of the nation, especially students, teachers, engineers, scientists, researchers and entrepreneurs on the issue of technological development and advancement. The NIPER was thrown open to over 100 schoolchildren from Shivalik Public School, Mohali and Mount Carmel School, Chandigarh. They were apprised of the research activities of the institute by taking them around in small batches to the institute's laboratories. The students from Swami Vivekananda College of Pharmacy, Banur also visited and observed the institute very closely. The faculty, scientists and students explained the R&D process by showing the facilities available. They also explained the finer aspects of technology involved in their work and demonstrated the functioning of various devices and techniques. Professor Pramil Tiwari and Dr Ipsita Roy delivered lectures highlighting the drug discovery, development and marketing of pharmaceuticals and NIPER's role in each of them. A promotional film of NIPER was also shown, which was well appreciated by the visitors. They also handled the question and answer session with the students. A booklet & Information bulletin on NIPER was distributed to students. The visitors appreciated NIPER's capabilities in the technology of Pharmaceutical R&D.
