Interphex USA concluded successfully in New York

Over 12,000 pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical manufacturing professionals gathered at Interphex, which took place at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City. During the three-day event, industry professionals, representing 19 different countries, had the chance to see the newest products and equipment from over 900 top Life Science manufacturers, suppliers and service providers from around the world, meet one-on-one with technical experts, view live demonstrations on the show floor and learn about emerging trends and technologies. Interphex was co-located with Biotechnica, Europe's leading biotechnology event and The PharmaMedDevice Symposium, which showcased Medical Device innovation. "Each year, we continue to act as a catalyst for the industry and be the world's most trusted source for leading-edge technology, education, and sourcing of the products and services that drive scientific innovation for Life Sciences manufacturing -- from drug development to market," RJ Palermo, industry vice president said. "The 2009 event proved to be an effective and efficient way to do business, in light of the current global economic state. We will continue to grow and meet the needs of the Industry." In addition to the expansive marketplace offered, Interphex offered a robust platform for knowledge, training and education through its conference programme. "This year's programme offered solutions in an ever-changing regulatory environment," Cindy Strachan, director of Industry development said. This timely and relevant educational programme offered insight from industry thought leaders with on subjects ranging from: sustainability, supply chain security, validation, automation processes, facility design and maintenance to, biomedical engineering, and global outsourcing. Highlights of the event included special keynote addresses and other sessions concerning the current and future state of the Industry. The opening keynote address was presented by G Steven Burrill, chief executive officer, Burrill & Company on the future of pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical manufacturing. His presentation was followed by a panel discussion with senior executives from Genentech, Eli Lilly & Co and Wyeth Pharmaceuticals about how they are handling the major concerns affecting their organizations and what they envision for the future of pharmaceutical manufacturing. A luncheon presentation on single use technology co-sponsored by BioProcessing International and BioProcess Systems Alliance titled, 'Single-Use Strategies in Bioprocessing: Reducing Cost, Time and Risk' featured a panel of users and suppliers of single-use (disposable) technology discussing the economic gains and short comings of the technology, widely used by the biotechnology sector. Another featured session, presented by Jim Miller, president, PharmSource on The Current State of International Outsourcing, where he spoke about outsourcing to emerging markets and identified the key trends that will shape sourcing practices in coming years. "This year's show was a huge success for AdvantaPure," Mike Trangreti from Advantapure said. "Reed Exhibitions did a great job of making the show relevant and driving key decision-makers in the pharmaceutical industry to attend." Companies including MG America, IMA North America, Thomas Engineering, Korsch America, Getinge, Bosch Packaging, Millipore, DSM Pharmaceuticals, GE Healthcare, Pall Life Sciences, Siemens Energy & Automation Advantapure, AES Clean Technologies and Saint Gobain lined the aisles of the Show floor in four different pavilions: PharmaSourcing Services, Package Zone, PharmaFacilities, PharmaIT, PharmaManufacturing and PharmaSupply Chain which enabled industry professionals to find and source the products and equipment needed for future projects. Top executives representing a broad range of the industry, were in attendance from companies including BMS, Genentech, Genzyme, ImClone, Johnson & Johnson, MassBiologics, Medimmune, Merck, Novartis, Pfizer, Purdue Pharma, Sanofi Pasteur, Schering-Plough, Teva and Wyeth. Next year, Interphex will take place from April 20 to 22, 2010 at the Jacob Javits Center in New York, New York.
