Narayana Hrudayalaya Health City housing the world's largest cancer hospital and one of the largest cardiac hospitals is now the first in Karnataka to install a cross building Pneumatic System. This set-up is currently functioning across two buildings in the Health City - Narayana Hrudayalaya and Department of Laboratory Medicine and Blood Bank. Imported from a German manufacturer, Aerocom, the system connected through PVC pipes delivers around 600 to 700 samples a day at a speed of six meters per second. The carefully bar coded blood samples then reach the testing labs where the prescribed tests are conducted through state-of-the-art pathological equipments. This system facilitates transport of medicines, lab samples, blood bags, medical records like X-rays and patient records across the buildings in the Narayana Hrudayalaya Health City. Pneumatic air tube system plays an important role in saving time. It takes seconds to transfer samples for lab-testing from one building to another compared to manual execution, thus saving a lot of time. Pneumatic System also helps save manpower and ensures that investigations are quick and is easy to operate for lab technicians and attendants as well, stated Dr Divya H M, medical administrator, Narayana Hrudayalaya. The Pneumatic System at Narayana Hrudayalaya currently has 12 stations with one station in each of their floors. The hospital is looking at a significant rise in the traffic of samples after the commissioning of the 1400-bed Cancer Hospital. They are planning to escalate the number of stations to 22. The Blood Bank at Narayana Hrudayalaya is NABL accredited.
