Heartlab Inc announced that Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian has ordered the company's Encompass Cardiac Network. Located in Newport Beach, CA, Hoag is home to the Hoag Heart Institute, one of the largest providers of heart surgery and interventional procedures in Orange County. The Institute is ranked in the top 10 per cent of heart programs in the U.S. by HealthGrades Inc. Heartlab's Encompass is the leading filmless cardiac imaging network system in use today. It connects to all major cardiac x-ray and ultrasound systems using the industry-standard DICOM communications protocol, creating a central repository of digital images from multiple modalities together with the associated physician findings reports. Equally important, the Encompass Report system for echocardiography provides a seamlessly integrated clinical results reporting system, based on the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) recommendations for echo report elements. Hoag Hospital's three cardiac catheterization and echocardiography labs perform more than 3,000 cardiac catheterizations and 4,000 echocardiograms annually. With Encompass, the hospital's labs, which are from three different manufacturers, will be networked together. Using six of Heartlab's network-connected diagnostic review stations placed strategically throughout the hospital, clinicians will have instantaneous access to several thousand diagnostic cardiac catheterization or echocardiography cases stored on the Encompass Enterprise Server, and access in less than 30 seconds to cases stored on the Encompass DVD Image Archive. Heartlab's DVD archive is ten times faster than competing technologies, with scaleable capacity to store from 3,600 to more than 70,000 cases. Secure LAN, WAN or Internet access is also available so clinicians can reference patient data from any PC with a Web browser.
