Prof P V Bhartam of NIPER bags Ranbaxy Research Award

Professor P V Bhartam, Department of Medicinal Chemistry, of National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), SAS Nagar, Chandigarh has bagged Ranbaxy Research Award for the year 2008. The country's prestigious award will be given to him in the field of 'Pharmaceutical Sciences' which will be jointly shared by Dr G V Madhava Sharma, scientist F (deputy director), head-Organic Chemistry Division III, Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, Hyderabad. The award presentation ceremony will be held on November 4 in New Delhi and will be presented by Nobel Laureate Professor Peter Dohetry, University of Melbourne, Australia. Professor Bhartam's research interests include computer aided drug design, anti-diabetic agent design, NO releasing agents, GSK3, PPAR?, Pf DHFR AMPK agent design, Studies on Drug Action, Electronic Structure Studies of drugs, Chemoinformatics, Bioinformatics, Pharmacoinformatics and Synthesis of computationally designed molecules. Professor Bhartam published more than 103 original scientific articles and eight science education articles. Earlier Prof. Bharatam received Fellowship of Alexander von (Avtt) Humboldt Stiftung; Fellowship of Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSc); IBM Faculty Award and a medal from Chemical Research Society of India (CRSI).
