Akums Drugs and Pharmaceuticals Ltd, which has taken big strides in a short span of time and has developed the best manufacturing facilities in the country,under its expansion plans, has acquired a recently constructed pharmaceutical manufacturing unit at Haridwar. Akums is converting it into a USFDA standard unit for producing world class hormonal preparations in oral & injectable forms. Akums’ fifth unit for oncology (anti-cancer) products of international standards is slated to commence production by mid of next year, according to company sources.
The company already has three state-of-the-art –manufacturing units which are WHO-GMP, ISO-9001, ISO-14001 certified and designed as per UK-MHRA & US-FDA norms. The factories sprawl over an area of about 5,00,000 square feet.
The foundation of Akums was laid in the year 2004 in Haridwar, Uttaranchal as a contract manufacturing company. Though, a relatively young company in race, Akums has already become a name to reckon in Indian pharmaceutical industry and is endeavouring to make a name in the global pharmaceutical market.

Akums manufacturing range includes antihypertensives, antibiotics, analgesics, anti-ulcerants antidiarrhoeals, antitubercular, anti fungal, antiprotozoals, antimalarial, antiallergics, antidiabetics, cough and cold preparations, vitamins, food preparations, etc.
Akums manufactures and supplies medicines to more than 200 top pharmaceutical companies of India on third party or loan license and P to P basis. Akums with its strong marketing and sales services, in a short span of time has reached a stage where its products are available at almost each and every pharmacy in every nook & corner of the country.
To keep pace with the increasing competition, Akums has also developed in-house testing laboratories along with R & D and F&D centres which are supported by highly qualified, technical and skilled personnel. The company also has sufficient infrastructure to develop and obtain DCGI( Indian Drugs Department) approval for new molecules and fixed dose combinations (F.D.Cs). AKUMS has already got approval from Indian Drugs Department to manufacture and market more than 120 new molecules &F.D.Cs, some of them are for the first time in the country.
