National meet on ‘Emerging and Merging Areas of Biology’ from Dec 7 to 9

The Bioinformatics Infrastructure Facility Centre of the Department of Biotechnology functioning at the Presidency College in Chennai, along with Indian Society of Life Sciences (ISLS) and Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA), are organizing a National Conference on ‘Emerging and Merging Areas of Biology’ from December 7 to 9 in Chennai. On account of this, an organizing committee has been formed with Dr G Madhavan Nair, president, ISCA and professor R Ramamurthy, president, ISLS as chief patrons. The three days scientific programme will comprise of enlightening and innovative symposia and talks by eminent Professors, Scientists and Research scholars in the areas of bio-informatics, Pharmacogenomics, Immuno-biology, Nanobiology, Space biology, Stem cell biology, cancer biology, Integrated Medicine and Biodiversity. Professor S Rajarajan, head, PG and Research Department of Microbiology in the College, who has been elected as the organizing secretary for the national seminar, said the conference will focus on various emerging and merging areas of biology and life sciences which aims at providing a common platform for interaction and exchange of new knowledge among research scholars, academicians and PG students. He hoped that the deliberations of the conference would help the participants to formulate new research programs and evolve new policy perspectives. Eminent scientists like Dr T Madan Mohan, Biotechnology Advisor to Government of India, Dr G Elavarasan, director of Defense Institute of Physiology and Allied Sciences, Dr P Nagaraju, scientist at the Cancer Institute, Adyar, Dr P L Gautham, chairman of National Authority on Biodiversity, and YEA. Raj, deputy director general of Meteorology Department will attend the three day conference. More than ten scientific papers on myriad subjects of life sciences will be presented in the conference.
