Birla Kerala Vaidyasala, a joint venture between Yash Birla Group and Kerala Vaidysala, with a chain of Ayurvedic Medical Spas operating in the country, has launched an authentic traditional healing and wellness centre with staying facilities in Chennai.
The JV plans to invest Rs 10 crore to open six more such centres in the state soon and has earmarked Rs 50 crore to launch 200 centres across the country with own and franchisee set ups. The group has plans to enter into tie-up with big hotels, resorts and hospitals in the country to materialize the dream of 200 centres within five years with a turnover target of Rs 1000 crore.
Spread over 1300 sq ft and located at T Nagar, the Centre offers the services of efficient doctors and well trained staff for Ayurvedic therapies and rejuvenation, based on holistic approach of treatment for some chronic health disorders and maintenance of good health. Further, the Company plans to open six more luxury spas with in the city area and 20 economy centres in Tier 2 & 3 cities in the state, said Dr Harshajeet Kurup, managing director of Birla Kerala Vaidyasala.
The Yash Birla Group, a Rs 30 billion conglomerate of over 20 diversified companies has acquired a majority stake of 51 per cent in the Kerala Vaidyasala recently. The new entity, Birla Kerala Vaidyasala has already opened a unit in Mumbai and two more centres are in the pipeline for Maharashtra, the MD briefed the project in a press meeting in Chennai.
Later while speaking to Pharmabiz Dr Kurup said that the company is optimistic about its new venture in Tamil Nadu as the state government is giving enough support to health tourism and traditional healing systems. He said the Chennai centre will provide treatments like Shirodhara, Kshetrapalanam and Ayushman Bhavan, each of these therapies deals with different aspects that synergize the energy of the body. He said by entering into Tamil Nadu health care industry, especially at the peak time of tourist inflow to the state, he aims to reach out to his customers across segments by offering them the most comprehensive Ayurveda and healthcare solutions at extremely affordable prices.
To a query whether the Medispa centre has any plan to include 'Nava Karma Treatment’ of Siddha system in place of ‘Pancha Karma Treatment of Ayurveda, Dr Prashanth, the Group President of the BKV, said there is similarity in both the treatments, but prefers Ayurveda method to implement in the centre. Regarding trained staff, he said the BKV has one training institute in Kerala which will cater the needs of the centres in Chennai and Mumbai.
