A spurious drug racket has been busted in Amagadh area in Jaipur where the state drug control officials have seized 13 products worth Rs 2.3 lakh along with labels, empty bottles and manufacturing machinery used to produce the fake products. In a raid on Tuesday, the state drug control officials and the police in Amagadh seized spurious products of well known brands such as Corex of Pfizer India, Walmycin oral suspension of Wallace Pharmaceuticals, Alex plus syrup of Glenmark Pharmaceuticals, Imol syrup of Cadila Healthcare, Relent syrup of Dr Reddy's Pharmaceuticals, Allegra suspension of Aventis Pharma, Cetsine syrup of GSK, Zedex P of Nexpar Pharma and Sporidex of Solace Pharma. “Based on tips from informants, we have conducted the raid and sent the seized samples to the state drugs testing laboratory. The whole activity was taking place in a two room area and we have seized liquid and ointment manufacturing machines from the premises. The range of products seems to be large but the scale of manufacturing is small,” said D K Shringi, drug controller, Rajasthan. The suspects booked the building on rent and shifted to the premise just a week ago and probably would have started manufacturing lately. The officials also suspect that the labels, printed for the spurious products were printed somewhere near New Delhi, though there are a few leads to establish the link, he added. While the main suspect behind the crime is still unknown, two individuals indulged in manufacturing operations has been arrested and has been remanded by the court, on Wednesday, for 10 days. The police has also detained two other individuals for suspected involvement in the crime and investigation is still on, said Shringi. The samples will be tested in the state drugs testing laboratory and the central drug laboratory, Kasauli for further information. The result from the state drug laboratory is expected within 15 days and the state drug control body will seek the central laboratory to provide the result as early as possible, he said. Recently, the drug control officials in the state has seized the spurious immunoglobulin injectables imported from China in Mumbai. The investigation in this case is still under process. The drug control office in Rajasthan will keep constant vigilance on such cases in the state, comments Shringi.
