The Chennai based MV Hospital for Diabetes, along with its research arm, Diabetes Research Centre, have jointly organized a multinational scientific seminar on ‘Diabetic Foot and Wound Healing’ at the Central Leather Research Institute in the city.
The scientific seminar, that held first time in India, was addressed by eminent doctors from across the globe and was co-sponsored by Medical Council of India and CLRI. More than 300 doctors from all over the World attended the two days meeting, which was in the form of an assessment by a selected study group.
The main focus of the study was to encourage research in the field of diabetic foot, which is at present lacking in many of the countries, sources in the Diabetic Centre said. The speakers who have come from foreign countries shared their experiences on the management of the diabetic foot in their countries.
Dr Vijay Viswanathan, managing director of MV Hospital and the Organizing Secretary of the Conference said the objective of the global study on wound healing and diabetic foot was to combine the expertise from the developing and developed countries. He added that preventing diabetic foot amputations was the key theme of the meet. Further, the conference has helped to build bridges between experts working in the field of the diabetic foot in different parts of the World, the doctor opined.
Current Review of Diabetic Ulcer Wound Healing, Toe Flow and Metabolic Know, Characteristics of Diabetic Foot problems in Western Pacific Region, Management modalities for Diabetic Foot, Diagnosis & Principles of Management of Peripheral Vascular Diseases, Diabetic Foot Clinic in Saudi Experience, and Surgical Approach of Treating Diabetic Foot Infection are the major areas on which comprehensive discussions were held in the two days analysis.
The scientific conference was inaugurated by A K Mandal, director, CLRI. Dr David Armstrong, Director, Southern Arizona Limb Salvage Alliance, USA has released a CD on the subject, ‘Preventing Diabetic Foot Amputations- A Multinational Approach’.
Dr.Sharad Pendsey, Director, Diabetes Clinic & Research Centre, Nagpur, and Dr.Anil Bhansali, Head, Department of Endocrinology, PGIMER, Chandigarh have delivered exclusive speeches on diabetic wound healing and the ongoing researches in their institutes.
