The 37th State Convention of the All Kerala Chemists and Druggists Association has passed a resolution demanding modification in the amendment of Spurious Drugs Act. The Convention was held in Thrissur in Kerala on December 20.
While agreeing that the culprits should be punished, the resolution said the traders should be given time to justify their stand as they are not involved in the manufacture of drugs.
It pleaded with Union Health Ministry to not to allow the private clinics and nursing homes to stock and sell medicines without obtaining valid drug licences. The Association also wanted the Kerala Government not to issue drug licences to the burgeoning chain stores started by monopoly houses and co-op banks. High priced medicines used for the treatment of cancer, kidney ailments, heart diseases etc, should be priced on realistic basis, the association urged the government.
The convention was inaugurated by JS Shinde, national president of the AIOCD. He said the National Executive Committee Meeting of AIOCD will be conducted in Kochi on January 16 & 17, next year. The meeting will discuss and decide important issues related to the demands made by AKCDA.
The meeting was presided over by AKCDA State president M P Abdul Gafoor. Milton J T welcomed the gathering and Antony Tharian, state general secretary presented the Official resolution of the convention.
