Second Vaidya Sharma memorial lecture to be held in Mumbai on Jan 16

The second Late Padmavibhushan Vaidya Shriramji Sharma Memorial Lecture will be organized on January 16, 2010 in Mumbai. Dr Jayaprakash Narayan, vice chairman of Central Council for Indian Medicine (CCIM) would deliver the memorial lecture on the topic 'Reforms Required in Teaching Ayurveda to restore its Lost Glory'. Dr Nilima Kshirsagar, vice chancellor, Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, will preside over the function. The function is being organized by Mumbai Vaidya Sabha at P L Deshpande Auditorium, Ravindra Natya Mandir, Prabhadevi, Mumbai. Vaidya Shriramji Sharma, who graduated in Ayurveda from Ruia Ayurved Mahavidyalaya had headed Bharatiya Ayurved Mahasammelan for many years. In 1950, he established Ayurved Prachar Sanstha, in Mumbai which has blossomed into an educational institution known as Kamaladevi Gauridatta Mittal Punarvasu Ayurved Mahavidyalaya and Hospital. In 1980, Sharma was elected the Dean of the first Ayurvedic Faculty of Mumbai University. He was a member on Advisory Board of institutions like Gujarat Ayurved Vishvavidyalaya, Jamnagar, Rashtriya Ayurved Sansthan, Jaipur and many others. He had been closely associated with Mumbai Vaidya Sabha since 1944. He worked as secretary for many years and had been Chairman till he breathed last.In 1998, he was bestowed with Dhanvantari Puraskar and Gold Medal by Dhanvantari Foundation. In 2000, he received an award from Vaidya Ramanarayan Sharma Anushthan. He was awarded the honour of ‘Shreshtha Chikitsak’ by Vaidya Khadiwale Shodha Sansthan in 1995. He was conferred with 'Ayurved Maharshree' upadhi by Akhil Bharatiyard Ayurved Mahasammelan in 1998 and on 23 July 2006, Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth, Pune conferred him the Upadhi of 'D. Lit' On 26 January 2007, he was decorated with Padmabhushan by the Indian government. Vd. Shriramji Sharma passed away at the age of 82 on 16 January, 2008.
