The event was inaugurated by the well known Australian pathologist Dr Svante R Orell. Addressing the audience, Dr Svante R Orell said, “Fine needle aspiration (FNA) of the breast is a rapid, relatively traumatic and accurate method for the diagnosis of breast disease. FNA is highly operator dependent. The main objective of the CME workshop was to educate and update the participating members with the ongoing developments on FNA across globe. The content for the workshop was uniquely designed and developed for planned and spontaneous discussions. The participating members would certainly benefit through these discussions and it would help them gain better insights and understanding on the issue.” According to Dr Karpagam, “Our objective to organize this workshop was to create a platform for doctors and students across India to come and share knowledge, hence they gained an insight into cytology.” Speaking on the occasion, Dr Gita Jayaram, consultant pathologist, Ramakrishna Diagnostics Centre, Ooty & Visiting Pathologist, Nankem Hospital, Coonoor, said, “Recognition of special types of breast cancers by fine-needle aspiration (FNA) cytology may have predictive implications but some difficulties still exist in the ability of cytopathologists to determine the tumour subtypes. The workshop has provided invaluable insights into the various aspects of Cytology. Such workshops help doctors and medical professionals understand the latest developments in Cytology and benefit from the experience from world-renowned authorities in the field.” Metropolis Healthcare is committed to partner with the medical community at all levels and contribute in enhancing the quality of medical services available in the country. The MetroCyte CME was designed to facilitate this exchange of knowledge and sharing of valuable expertise of leading professionals in their fields, Karpagam told Pharmabiz.
