The Mumbai-based Wockhardt Foundation has come forward to join hands with city based NGO, Sanjay Nirupam Helpline to serve the underserved sections of the society deprived of medical needs due to ignorance and lack of financial support. In what is termed out to be a path-breaking initiative, Wockhardt Foundation, an international not-for-profit organization which has so far diagnosed and administered more than 40 million patients through Mobile Medical Unit (Right To Vision & Mobile Health Reach Programmes). While RTV is into diagnosing preventable blindness, MHR caters to various medical needs of the poor, weak and needy.
Sanjay Nirupam, Member of Parliament, said, “This initiative will kick start on 24th of Jan 2010 in Borivali through the Mobile Medical Unit of Wockhardt Foundation. Being a social activist many people come to my doorstep to seek medical intervention their common problems are eye ailments and I am sure with the expertise of Wockhardt Foundation, lakhs of people will be benefited. This will continue for 52 weeks of the year".
“Mumbai suburbs are vulnerable and mostly neglected, hence we will cater to areas from Malad to Dahisar once in a week” said Nirupam. Speaking on the occasion Huzaifa Khorakiwala, CEO, Wockhardt Foundation, addressed that “We, at present have 9 vans operating across the country and our efforts to serve the poor through medical intervention in both our Programmes, has so far benefited more than one lakh patients and welcome this partnership and wish to carry out this activities till India awakens and finds a real solution.”
“We are at a crossroad, since many poorer section of the society are deprived of medical services and my team has really taken this up seriously to address the issue. Sanjay Nirupam is a well known social activist and I am sure with his help we will reach out to many,” added Khorakiwala.
