NPPA fixes price for two ophthalmic formulation packs

The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has revised price of a formulation pack and fixed price for another formulation through a notification in the middle of March, 2010. The maximum retail price of 5ml vial prednisolone acetate ophthalmic suspension, marketed by Alcon Laboratories (India) Pvt Ltd, has been increased from Rs 59.81 to Rs 62.20. Through another notification, the drug price watchdog has fixed the maximum retail price of Pred Forte Eye drop suspension, containing one per cent prednisolone acetate at Rs 97.28 per 10ml vial. The prices fixed are inclusive of excise duty, sales tax/VAT and local taxes if any and will be applicable for the specified pack and packs of similar strength, elaborates the NPPA notification. The prices fixed or notified under the provisions of DPCO, 1995 have to be mandatorily implemented by the manufacturing and marketing companies notwithstanding its status of compliance of conditions for such formulation pack under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.
