Eli Lilly and Company announced the launch of its latest insulin delivery device, Humalog KwikPen, a pre-filled pen that contains Humalog (Insulin Lispro, rDNA origin) brand of insulins. It is a prescription therapy that should only be started on the advice of a treating physician. Humalog KwikPen provides users with a smoother injection experience; requires less force to administer the injection, and is conveniently lightweight and shorter than other pre-filled pens. Designed with a simple, “dial and dose” approach, the newer device has now come to India after its successful launches in USA, South Africa and Japan in recent past. Humalog KwikPen comes pre-filled with 300 units of Insulin and is available in a discreet steel blue colour that does not suggest a medical device. “Diabetes management is an ongoing exercise and patients have to ensure they achieve tight glycemic control at all times. Humalog KwikPen with its unique features is a step ahead in helping patients to achieve that control with added benefit of convenience,” said Sandeep Gupta, CMD, Eli Lilly India. By having a device that is easy-to-use without causing much interruption to their daily routine, people with diabetes would feel more confident in their ability to successfully manage diabetes,” said the company in a release. As per the recent ‘ATLAS’ report published by the IDF (International Diabetes Federation), India has become the diabetes capital of the world with an estimated five crore people suspected to be suffering from this silent killer. This number is touted to touch eight crore in the next 10 years.
