Global Hospitals to invest Rs 200 cr to set up multi-organ transplant centre in Mumbai

Global Hospitals group is planning to set up a 400-bed tertiary care centre in Lower Parel, Mumbai with an investment of Rs 200 crore in its first phase. The hospital is expected to start functioning by January 2011. This facility is planned to be a super and multi specialty centre of excellence with focus on gastroenterology, liver, kidney, minimal access surgery, cardiology, trauma, orthopaedics, neurosciences, oncology, digestive, urological diseases, multi-organ transplantation and stem cell therapy offering therapeutic, surgical and diagnostic services under one roof. Dr K Ravindranath, CMD, Global Hospitals informed that once the work in Mumbai is over they plan to focus on opening its facility in Kolkata, Bhubaneshwar and Delhi simultaneously. He said that the hospital will be investing Rs 200 crore for the Kolkata facility and Rs 300 crore for its facility in Bhubaneshwar. The hospital is funding its expansion project through internal accruals. “Having established a strong and credible presence in South India, we now want to expand our reach across India. The setting up of the Mumbai facility is in full swing,” Dr Ravindranath added. Global has excelled in areas ranging from diagnosis to multi-organ transplantation, simple procedures to complex surgeries, international expertise to state –of-the art infrastructure. They are also the first centre in country to launch liver dialysis facility. Speaking about liver diseases and liver transplantation, Dr Mohamed Rela head of liver transplant unit of the Global Hospitals Group said, “Liver transplantation is a complex procedure. Right from finding a donor to recovering enough to ensure that the organ has been accepted by the body, this is one of the most difficult surgeries to undertake.” Given the high incidence of Hepatitis-B and Hepatitis-C in India, a large number of people in the country are in need of transplant operations. Our aim is to treat such cases successfully.” he added.
