Unilever R&D is organizing a one-day seminar on ‘Safety and Risk Assessment Approaches for Materials of Herbal Origin'. The event will be held in Bangalore at the Unilever R&D campus in Whitefield on September 3, 2010. According to the organizers, going by the increasing use of herbal materials in non-traditional areas, the symposium is being conducted to address the gaps in knowledge on safety of such materials in newer contexts. The main sessions will provide an overview and an in-depth comprehension on current safety assessment approaches; identify crucial issues and chart a way forward to develop appropriate science-based risk assessment approaches for herbal materials. The key objective of the seminar is to bring together scientists from academia, industry and regulatory bodies. The event will provide a platform to deliberate and network and outline R&D needs. Another purpose of the event is to propose for new science and technology programmes on safety evaluation of herbal materials to develop robust risk assessment strategies. There is no registration fee for the participants. The symposium can accommodate only up to 150 participants.
