The Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India (Pharmexcil) is
organising an international buyer-seller meet from December 11 to 13 at
the 4th World Ayurveda Congress in Bangalore. By partnering in this
event, Pharmexcil aims at promoting and branding Indian systems of
medicine and creating confidence to the food and drug authorities of
the world by arranging exclusive interactive sessions with Indian as
well as international drug regulatory agencies and health ministries.
“Through this event, we plan to initiate on the possibilities of
creating harmonised system of regulatory requirements for Indian system
of medicine products as there is a lot of potential in this segment. It
also aims at facilitating trade and business by inviting importers,
traders and drug regulators from all the important regions of the world
and arranging the buyer-seller meets, ” said Dr P V Appaji, executive
director, Pharmexcil.
He informed that following the success of
the International Arogya, an international buyer seller meet organised
by Pharmexcil in association with Department of Ayush, this is the
second big international event by the association focusing on Ayurveda,
herbal products, dietary supplements and nutraceuticals exports.
“We
are inviting around 50 potential importers, traders, food and drug
regulators, associations and consultants from the top 10 export
countries dealing with Ayurveda, herbal products, dietary supplements
and nutraceuticals to participate and trade with the Indian industry,”
Dr Appaji said.
The buyer seller meet will be followed by
technical sessions with regulatory officials of the ayurvedic and herbal
products from different countries after which, there will be one-to-one
business meetings between the foreign and Indian delegates focusing on
the export aspect of the business. Some of the top 10 export countries
dealing with Ayurveda, herbal products, dietary supplements and
nutraceuticals include Latin America, US, Russia, etc, to name a few.
He
informed that they are expecting a good turn out at the event and have
already got five to six delegates from different countries registered
for the event to be held in December. “We are expecting three to four
delegates and one to two government officials from each of these
countries to actively participate in the buyer-seller meeting, till now
we have got positive response as many of the countries have shown
interest in participating in it,” Dr Appaji said. The participants of
the event will be getting MDA discount that will benefit the
participating companies a lot.
According to Pharmexcil, India is
exporting herbal and Ayush products worth Rs.1186.19
crore with one per cent share of total pharma exports to various
regions and among them, top five export destinations are Latin America,
Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), European Union (EU), South
Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), Middle East and
ASEAN countries. India is the second largest country in the export of
medicinal plants to the world next to China.
