Karnataka govt spends Rs.238 crore to modernize ESIC hospital

Karnataka government has invested a total of Rs.238 crore for the modernization of an ESIC hospital at Rajajinagar in Bangalaore. The state government has already inaugurated the Phase I of the facility for which an amount of Rs.110 crore has been spent.

This hospital is the first ESIC hospital where work of modernization and upgradation has been completed and the facility is comparable to international standards. The ISO certified facility has a total of 500 beds. Union Minister of Labour & Employment Mallikarjun Kharge, inaugurated the facility

In the first phase of the modernization, the wards for orthopaedic, paediatrics, surgery, burn & plastic, urology and OBG have started functioning. Diagnostic facilities including the CT scan/MRI, X-ray, ultrasound, pathology, microbiology and biochemistry have been commissioned subsequently. Besides this, 12 operation theatres with modern facilities are being made available for comprehensive surgical interventions.

The ESI Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (PGIMSR) at this ESIC Model Hospital has been approved by the Medical Council of India (MCI). The Medical institute has appointed Professors, Associate Professors and Assistant Professors in eight specialties. The institute now got 10 PG students which covers two each in general medicine, OBG, biochemistry, pathology and microbiology. Efforts are on to start a full-fledged medical college for MBBS course.

The corporation has under its umbrella 146 hospitals, 42 hospital annexes, 1,388 ESI dispensaries, 1678 panel clinics, 797 branch/pay offices and 52 regional/sub-regional/divisional offices.
