Genomic Solutions Inc, a leading, worldwide supplier of automated solutions for genomic and proteomic research, announces the introduction of the Investigator ProPrep -- a new, fully integrated robotics system for in-gel digestion and spotting of proteins for mass spectrometer analysis. David Miller, Genomics Solutions' Global Product Manager for Proteomics, notes the Investigator ProPrep answers the need of high throughput research laboratories for a single, integrated system automating in-gel protein digestion and MALDI or LC/MS/MS sample preparation. "The Investigator ProPrep platform can significantly boost research productivity by automating manual regimens that rob researchers of valuable research time and can contribute to variability and errors," Miller says. "Researchers need not limit their opportunities by spending hours on tedious jobs that can be efficiently done by Investigator ProPrep." The instrument's assurance of uniformity in MALDI spotting means less variability to troubleshoot. "The Investigator ProPrep offers unprecedented flexibility," Miller adds. "It provides preprogrammed digestion and spotting protocols that ensure quick start-up. Additionally, method editing software lets scientists modify and create customized protocols to fit their specific needs." Investigator ProPrep is the only integrated digestion and spotting system adaptable to any spotting target. The instrument is designed to enable preparation of samples for use in all commonly used commercial mass spectrometers. It also is the only system that offers the option of splitting samples, using a portion for MALDI spotting while saving the remainder for LC/MS/MS or other analysis techniques. As a result, researchers can virtually chart their own course with this product. "The instrument also automates sample cleanup procedures, addition of matrix, and spotting onto MALDI targets," Miller notes. "For increased flexibility, researchers may save their samples in 96 or 384 well plates for auto sampling and additional mass spec analysis." The instrument accommodates up to eight 96-well plates for digestion and up to 384 samples for MALDI spotting. Investigator ProPrep's speed and efficiency save researchers time and money, Miller points out. "With a protein digestion capability of 1,536 plugs daily, this system offers an obvious advantage to any facility using mass spectrometry -- whether it is done internally or outsourced to a mass spec contract lab." The instrument accommodates tracking of process parameters and sample identities through an on-board database or standard log files. The SQL Server database and instrument control software ensure smooth operation, process tracking and reproducible results.
