Fortis Hiranandani Hospital at Vashi opens advanced Centre for Minimal Access Surgery

Fortis Hiranandani Hospital, Vashi, a 150-bed hospital unit of India's fastest growing hospital network - Fortis Healthcare Ltd, announced the launch of an advanced MAS centre (Minimal Access Surgery) at their existing hospital premises of Vashi, Navi Mumbai.  The vision and the purpose of this centre is to impart world class hi-tech, quality care to patients based on evidence based medicine.

Speaking on this initiative Dr Roy Patankar, Gl Laparoscopic surgeon, said,  "Benefit of Minimal Access Surgery is that within a less time period patient who has undergone for the surgery will get recovered and can go for his/her routine work. He/she can go for his job after 2 days of the surgery. The patient will get 5 years more survival time compared to the other general open surgery. Within a short time period, open surgery will be replaced by this Minimal Access Surgery".

With the launch of the Fortis MAS unit, the people in Navi Mumbai and neighbouring areas will have access to speedy and world class medical care close to them as they will not have to travel long distances to Mumbai for high end procedures. The spectrum of the MAS unit will include not only the routine day care Laparoscopic procedure like Cholecystectomy, Appendicetomy and Hernia but also very high end advanced Laparoscopic and Thoracoscopic procedures like NOTES (Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery), VATS (Video Assistant Thoracoscopic Surgery), Single incision Laparoscopic Surgery (SILS), Advance upper G.I. The MAS team is led by renowned Gl Laparoscopic surgeon Dr. Roy Patankar who is internationally known for Minimally Invasive Anti-Reflux Surgery and has performed largest number of anti-reflux surgery (Fundoplication) in India.
