Shimadzu, the world’s leading manufacturer of Total Organic Carbon (TOC) analyzers, introduced a new series of combustion type analyzers. The TOC-L Series systems target pharmaceutical water applications.
The product consists of four models including PC-controlled and stand-alone versions. The TOC-L Series utilizes the 680 deg. C combustion catalytic oxidation method to efficiently analyze all organic compounds. Shimadzu developed this method which is now used worldwide.
With its wide measuring range of 4 µg/L to 30,000 mg/L, Shimadzu’s TOC-L Series supports each type of application, from pure water to highly contaminated water. In addition, the TOC-L Series supports measurement of liquid, solid and gaseous samples. The series features automatic sample acidification and sparging as well as an automatic dilution function that reduces sample salinity, acidity and alkalinity, significantly extending the period of use of catalysts and combustion tubes. High-precision mass flow controllers ensure uninterrupted carrier gas for high-precision analysis, and a zero maintenance Peltier cooler is utilized for maximum water vapour removal to ensure accurate analysis.
Additional hardware features include a new colour LCD monitor for the stand-alone system and USB communications for computer, printer and data storage.
For simultaneous TOC and Total Nitrogen analysis the TNM-L system can be added without increasing the size of the footprint. Highly sensitive chemiluminescence detection offers a measuring range between 5 µg/L and 10,000 mg/L. Furthermore, the TOC-L series features variable syringe sizes used when the sample volume is limited.
The optional salt kits permit 12 times more salt to be analyzed before maintenance is required. The ASI-L auto sampler can utilize three different vial sizes for various applications, while the smaller OCT-L auto sampler can use any vial size for up to 8 or 16 samples.
TOC-Control L Software, the state-of-the-art software for PC control combines new features with easy-to-use operation. The clear layout of the sample window editor offers users ‘at-a-glance’ access to all relevant information. The sample table can now be established via a simple “drag & drop” operation. In addition, the right mouse button contains many useful functions that greatly simplify operation. The software version allows additional samples to be added during a current analysis cycle. This happens in the processing mode, whereby any desired number of samples, calibration curves or control samples can be added. It is also possible to recalculate previously measured samples or print out reports. Proven functions such as the establishment of control cards, validation table, export functions and 21 CFR Part 11 support are included.
Further, the product is known to be eco-friendly systems using 43 per cent less energy than previous models and the width of the TOC-L has been reduced by 20 per cent, saving valuable lab space.
