The controller general of patents, designs and trademarks at India’s Intellectual Property (IP) office, P H Kurian has resigned from this post and is all set to return to Kerala, where he was industries secretary before moving to the IP office in February 2009.

Kurian, the first Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer to head the patent office, was appointed as controller general of patents, designs and trademarks in 2009for a period of five years. But, the Congress-led government in Kerala is learnt to have called him back to the state.

“It is a government decision, the Kerala Government wanted my service in the state so I will be soon resuming my work there.  As of now I am waiting for an official intimation which is expected to reach me in two to three weeks,” Kurian said.

But, he added that he will be handling all the responsibilities at the patent office till he gets an official go ahead from the central government.
