Bangalore Baptist Hospital (BBH) has been accredited by NABH (National Accreditation Board for Hospitals) and NABL (National Accreditation Board of Laboratories) for the delivery of highest quality of patient care from the Quality Council of India (QCI). It is the multi speciality mission hospital in South India to have received this national mark of excellence.
It is the first mission, not-for-profit, charitable hospital in Karnataka to get accredited. It is one among the 100 hospitals in the country to be accredited by NABH and one among the 300 Hospitals in India to be accredited by NABL. The hospital is governed by Christian Medical College, Vellore, since 1989. The 300-bed multi speciality centre in Bangalore has over 750 staff and students and offers 8 post-graduate residency programmes with Diploma & BSc nursing courses. There is also training in Clinical Pastoral Education. So far the hospital has treated 175,000 outpatients and 13,000 in-patients annually. It has conducted 3,800 surgeries and 2,700 deliveries annually.
While presenting the NABH and NABL certificates Dr Girdhar J Gyani, secretary general, QCI said that the accreditation is testimony to the fact that BBH Care Pathways are protocol driven, reflect global practices and ensure that patients consistently receive quality health care. The hospital was accredited by NABH and NABL after rigid and strict quality assessment and audit.
Receiving the certificates, Dr Alexander Thomas, director (CEO), BBH, said “These coveted accreditations were achieved only through the continuous efforts of all staff of BBH to incorporate NABH and NABL standards and tools into the hospital system. We are happy that our efforts have been recognized. The efforts and services have been, and will continue to be, of great benefit to the people we serve, and our community at large.” The receiving of the NABH and NABL accreditation is an evidence of BBH’s excellence in medical services and the care we provide to each of our patients in a clean and safe environment. Accreditiation from the QCI is a significant mark of distinction that proves the expertise, quality care, and excellent service that BBH offers to its patients and referring physicians.
BBH provides a significant amount of concessional treatment which is about 10 per cent to 20 per cent of its annual budget. In the last financial year, concessions of over Rs.3 crore were given by the hospital. This is in addition to free medical care provided through palliative care and community health initiatives. BBH has also established a comprehensive teaching program in the hospital in affiliation with various educational bodies. The hospital provides postgraduate medical education under the National Board of Examinations (DNB), the BSc programme in nursing, diploma programmes in nursing, Allied health sciences, Pastoral care and other certificate programmes. The hospital had recently inaugurated its cancer centre with radiotherapy facilities during the 38th anniversary celebrations. A state of the art reproductive medicine unit is on the anvil which is being established for the benefit of the community facing issues related to infertility.
